Isopropyl alcohol is produced synthetically by the catalytic hydration of propene followed by distillation. This is its main difference from ethyl alcohol, which for the most part is obtained in the process of processing grain, corn, rye, etc. It is well dissolved in water and in some ethers. It dissolves oils, natural and synthetic resins.
